- In biochemistry and molecular biology, ion depletion is commonly used to deactivate metal-dependent enzymes, either as an assay for their reactivity or to suppress damage to DNA, proteins, and polysaccharides. The Disodium salt of EDTA is the most commonly used form of this versatile organic complexing agent, which is used for the determination of many metal ions either by direct titration or by back-titration.
- Hardness of water is determined by titrating with a standard solution of ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA) which is a complexing agent. Since EDTA is insoluble in water, the disodium salt of EDTA is taken for this experiment.
- Personal Care Applications: EDTA Na2 is used in Cosmetics to increase effectiveness and improve stability of bar and solid soaps, bath preparations; creams, oils, hair care products and many other personal care formulations.
